The Junior Common Room (JCR) is the heart of student life at our college. From representation to welfare support, events, and more — the JCR is here for you.
We're here to listen to whatever might be on your mind, whether that's something big or small, and we offer signposting, when requested, to other support services.
Welfare Info →Are you a prospective pupil? Or simply a lurker - well, here's the spaces our college has to offer
College Facilities →Hi, my name is Josh (they/he), I have recently graduated from a BA Geography degree, and I will be your JCR President for 2025/26.
The JCR President is a sabbatical officer (full-time paid role) who is responsible for the day-to-day running of the JCR. They represent the JCR to staff and the wider university as well as act as a trustee to the JCR.
On top of this they support the JCR Executive and Officers with their roles, and help to coordinate JCR events such as balls, formals, and Butler Day!
If you want to find out more about the JCR you can find me in the JCR Office from 9am to 5pm during weekdays, or you can email me at butler.jcr@durham.ac.uk, or scroll through the @butlerjcr Instagram page!
Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions!
Hi my name is Adam and I am the JCR FACSO for 2025-2026. A lot of money goes through the JCR every year and it is my job to oversee all of this. As FACSO I am in charge of making budgets for all of the year's events, helping to support students with their finances or any others issues they may have and working closely alongside the JCR President to run and organise all the great things we have planned throughout the year.
If you have any questions about the JCR or finances, then don't hesitate to send me an email at butler.facso@durham.ac.uk or come and find me in the JCR office Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm.
Good day folks, I am the mole. I live within the mound, but don't be frightened, I'm friendly! I am your college mascot, summoned once in a while by the wonderful Gill (our college principal). You will see me at events throughout the year, such as matriculation!
